Theresa Horak has worked for the Federal Government
for 15 years in various administrative positions.
She started with General Services Administration,
then went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation and now works for the
National Park Service.
She was raised in Las Animas, Colorado.
After graduation she attended Otero Junior College and obtained an Associate of Arts Degree.
She received her Bachelor Degree in Sociology at Saint Mary of the
Plains in Dodge City, Kansas.

Theresa Horak, Administrative
Technician for the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site,
passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, October 8, 2006. Theresa
was raised in Las Animas, Colorado where she graduated from high
school in 1968. She attended Otero Junior College in La Junta and
received her BA in Sociology from Saint Mary of the Plains College
in Dodge City, Kansas.
She worked in Denver for the General
Services Administration and Bureau of Reclamation for twelve years
before returning to La Junta and working for Bent’s Old Fort
National Historic Site, and then the Sand Creek Massacre National
Historic Site. Theresa was devoted to the effort to establish the
Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site, and loved working with
Cheyenne and Arapaho tribal representatives and the people of Kiowa
County. Her smile and respect for all people will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held on October
12, 2006 at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish in La Junta.
She is survived by her mother, Linda Horak, of La Junta, brothers
Joe (Jenny) Horak, of La Junta and Gene (Vickie) of Littleton,
several nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
