Creek Massacre National Historic Site Previewing Upcoming PBS National
Parks Documentary
EADS, COLO. –
Sept. 23, 2009 –
Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site will preview an upcoming PBS
series which tells the story of the national parks and the people who
created them.
Ken Burns’ film The National Parks: America’s Best Idea, filmed over
the course of more than six years at some of nature’s most spectacular
locales, will be broadcast by PBS.
The 12-hour series premiers Sunday, Sept. 27 and runs for six
consecutive nights. The film series is directed by Ken Burns and written
and co-produced by Dayton Duncan.
At the historic site, near the town of Chivington, CO, the park will
hold a 45-minute preview of the film on request, beginning on Thursday,
Sept. 24 until Tuesday, Sept. 29, each day from 9am
– 3pm.
Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site, dedicated in April of
2007, is the newest of 391 units of the National Park System, open daily
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Programs by park rangers are offered without
charge, and there is no fee to visit the site.
On Sept. 26, National Public Lands Day, all 391 national parks will
welcome visitors and volunteers for a free day of service and
celebration in the parks.
