On August 11,2005, Park Superintendents representing a number of the National Parks throughout Colorado visited the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site.  The visit was part of the 2005 Colorado National Parks Zone Meeting, and also included a stop at Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site.  The Superintendents were joined by several Park Manager and Regional Office staff.

The National Park Service contingent met with Congressional staff and also had the opportunity to visit with Kiowa County Commissioners as well as Cheyenne and Arapaho Sand Creek Massacre Tribal Representatives.

After their visit to the Sand Creek Massacre site, the Superintendents traveled to the Community Building in Eads where ate lunch and continued to consult with the Congressional Reps., County Officials, and Tribal members.

Among the Superintendents attending were Bill Wellman, Curecanti National Recreation Area; Mary Risser, Dinosaur National Monument; Reggie Tiller, Florisant Fossil Beds National Monument; Steve Chaney, Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve; Betty Janes, Mesa Verde National Park; Cindy Ott-Jones, Bent's Old Fort National Historic  Site, and Alexa Roberts, Superintendent of the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site.  The National Par Service Intermountain Regional Office in Lakewood was represented by State Coordinator Karen Breslin, Legislative Affairs Specialist Susan Garland, and Public Information Officer James Doyle.
