Community Open House at Sand Creek Massacre NHS

National park rangers at Sand Creek Massacre
National Historic Site will present special guided walks and talks for
members of nearby communities on Sunday, October 17. The special events
will begin at 9am and last throughout the day until 4pm at the site.
Arrive before 3 pm to allow for a one hour visit before the gate closes
at 4pm. Refreshments and beverages will be on hand in the conference
room. Books and other educational merchandise will be available for
purchase from Western National Parks Association. “Come and rediscover
some of the new features out at the site”, Alden Miller, Park
Superintendent.
The Sand Creek Massacre site is located 23 miles
from Eads, CO. To drive to the site take Colorado Hwy. 287 near Eads,
or west off Hwy 385 at Sheridan Lake. Near Chivington, turn north onto
County Road 54: or at Brandon, turn north onto County Road 59. Follow
either road to its entrance with County Road W, one mile east (right) of
its intersection with County Road 54, or several miles west (left) of
County Rd. 59.
The Kiowa County Transit shuttle van will be
available from 1 pm to 3pm. Seating is limited, to reserve a seat on
the van please call 438 – 5916 before 5 pm Friday, October 15.

operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. MST
