FIREWOOD
AVAILABLE AT SAND CREEK MASSACRE SITE
The
Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site (NHS) is currently allowing
residents of southeastern Colorado the opportunity to gather firewood at
the site. Residents are reminded to bring their own pick up and trailer.
Wood is located adjacent to the creek bed inside the park. The area is
accessible from the dirt road running north and west from park
headquarters. Only downed cottonwood limbs may be removed from the
area. Prior to gathering, please check in at the park office for
directions and a waiver form. While there is no fee for the wood,
donations to the park are appreciated.
Firewood may be picked up between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm Monday through
Friday until the end of November. The park will close for the season on
December 1, 2008.
