ANNUAL NORTHERN CHEYENNE SPIRITUAL HEALING RUN TO BE HELD AT SAND CREEK
MASSACRE SITE, NOVEMBER 23
The
Northern Cheyenne Tribe’s annual Sand Creek Spiritual Healing Run will
commence at the Massacre Site on the morning of November 23, 2006. This
year’s run, “commemorating the victims and survivors of the massacre,
healing and awareness on ancestral homelands”, is dedicated to the “War
on Meth,” according to information provided by the tribal organizers.
The annual event will begin with a sunrise
ceremony at the site followed by the commencement of the run at 9:00
a.m. The runners will proceed to the Multi-purpose room at the Eads
High School for a 1:00 p.m. Thanksgiving Dinner, made possible by a
generous contribution by Heritage Farms and the volunteer assistance of
Dan Richards.
From Eads, the runners will proceed to Denver,
where a candlelight vigil will be held at the Denver Art Museum Wheel
Sculpture on Friday evening. On the morning of Saturday, November 25, an
honoring ceremony will be held at the Riverside Cemetery at the grave
site of Captain Silas Soule, Company D, 1st Colorado Cavalry,
U.S. Army. From there, the runners will proceed to the State Capitol
Building for presentations, and the event will conclude with a noon
reception at the Colorado Historical Society.
The public is welcome and encouraged to attend any
portion or all of the event.
